A 2015 MBA graduate of the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, Liz Lewis focused her studies on Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation. She spent a summer interning in Silicon Valley with Plug & Play Tech Center as their Summer Camp Ambassador where she learned some of the ins and outs of everyday entrepreneurship and venture investing.

Before her interest in entrepreneurship began Liz was all about Japan. She lived and worked in Japan for 12 years as an Assistant English Teacher for 5 years, before opening her own conversation school which she successfully ran for 4 years. Switching gears in 2010 she began working logistics and international sales for a small family owned artisanal soy sauce manufacturer. Helping this company grow and experiencing the struggles that small businesses go through really ignited her passion for entrepreneurship.

Liz currently helps entrepreneurs and small businesses through her position as Assistant Director of the ETSU Innovation Lab, a high-tech business incubator located in Johnson City, TN.

Venture

Venture is often used for referring to a risky start-up or enterprise company.⁵

Director

Person elected by shareholders to serve on the board of directors. The directors appoint the president, vice president and all other operating officers, and decide when dividends should be paid (among other matters).³

Incubator

An organization established to support the development of startup companies with intermediate term access, (1 - 3 years) to facilities, (office and lab space), resources and development programs, potentially including mentoring. Incubators differ from accelerators in that the latter typically focus on acceleration of growth in a shorter defined period whereas the former is focused on the development of the company and its product over a longer time period.⁶
